Is art instinctive?

Edit Block |www.ravenswork.com

Instinct is defined as a natural propensity, an intuitive way, an innate behavior, from Latin: instinctus, which means “impulse.” Art is undoubtedly all of these things. But can an instinct be learned, or does that disqualify it and make it a skill? Another way to frame the question is, what makes someone good, not just at art, at anything? And what price do we pay? We sell our soul, not in some crossroads satan way, but by sacrificing a part of our lives. We get good by showing up when we don’t want to; by delivering our best even when we don’t feel good, when we’re tired, not getting paid, and when we want to quit. The things we learn by enduring becomes a part of us. It becomes instinct.
