Desert Hot Springs, California
I drove down the road with both hands on top the wheel, thumbs touching one another, gliding around one curve after another when a strange thing happened. I began to feel like I stood still as the road moved under the car. At first, it was fun to experience a new sensation, but after a while, I couldn’t stop it from happening and started to feel uncomfortable and wondered if there could be permanent damage caused by this change in viewpoint with no return to a stationary road. I continued, mile after mile, and over time, I began to get used to it. I could still turn, brake, and control the car, so I let go of my concern and started to accept and enjoy the ride. And so the road turned while I stood still.
