Del Monte Forest, Monterey, California
I was walking on a path through the Del Monte forest when a crow flew over and landed in a pine tree, screaming intently like it was sounding an alarm. Immediately, it was joined by many others, a murder, all yelling at something happening on the ground. They were more intense than I’d witnessed before as if they were personally being assaulted. That’s how sensitive they are; they can feel each other to that fierce degree. But we’re the same way. If you saw someone being assaulted you’d scream a warning, try to call for help, alert others. That’s what we’re seeing now with climate change. We feel what’s happening, so we’re calling out, sounding the alarm, warning
